The first and second generations of Passo were jointly developed with Daihatsu, and planning and marketing were in charge of Toyota, and design, development and production were conducted by Daihatsu. This model is not an OEM but Toyota consigns production to Daihatsu, and Daihatsu's Boon is a twin car by badge engineering, but the vehicle type and manufacturer were different. However, Passo's smart entry is equipped with Daihatsu's "key-free system" instead of Toyota's "smart entry and start system", and the presence of Daihatsu has appeared there. The third generation is Boone's OEM, the vehicle type notation is Daihatsu style, and the manufacturer is also Daihatsu, and of course the smart entry is also a "key free system".
The first generation (AC10 type 2004-2010) Passo is shorter than the first generation Vitz, but the room is wider. However, the floor surface of the front seat is inclined to release the powertrain at the time of a frontal collision. The minimum turning radius achieves 4.3m, the same level as a standard mini car, and is excellent in handling. In contrast to Vitz, which has a floor shift lever type parking brake, a column shift and foot type parking brake has been adopted, creating a space where a bag can be placed between the driver's seat and the passenger seat, The dashboard has a space that can store small items such as wallets and mobile phones, making it more conscious of female users.
The engine will be a newly developed Daihatsu 1KR-FE inline 3-cylinder DOHC 12-valve 989cc natural intake engine (FF), (4WD), and a Daihatsu K3-VE in-line 4-cylinder DOHC 16 valve 1, 297cc natural intake engine (FF). All transmissions will be column shift 4-speed AT.
