On February 24, 2021, BMW Japan announced some specification changes for BMW's SUVs "X5", "X6" and "X7".
This specification change is for models equipped with the X5, X6 and X7 3-liter direct 6 diesel turbo engine "B57D". A 48V mild hybrid system is used to improve fuel efficiency and dynamics performance.
This 48V mild hybrid system consists of a 48V starter generator that regenerates braking energy to generate electricity, and an additional battery that stores the electricity. The starter generator also acts as an electric drive system with a maximum output of 11PS, reducing engine load and optimizing energy efficiency, as well as boosting to support the internal combustion engine during start-up and acceleration. It also has a coasting function. The fuel consumption of the "X5 xDrive35d" and "X6 xDrive35d" is 12.4km / liter, and that of the "X7 xDrive40d" is 11.9km / liter (all in WLTC mode). It has achieved a maximum improvement of 1.1km / liter compared to the conventional model. The B57D engine of the X7 xDrive40d uses a 48V mild hybrid system, a multi-stage turbocharger and a common rail direct injection system. It produces a maximum output of 340PS and a maximum torque of 700Nm, which is 75PS and 80Nm stronger than the conventional model.
