On September 2, 2021, Subaru unveiled the new "Subaru Legacy Outback" for the first time, and started accepting pre-orders prior to the official announcement in October of the same year. The Legacy Outback is a crossover SUV that combines the advantages of a passenger car and an SUV. It is positioned as Subaru's flagship model.
The new concept is "a crossover that stimulates intellectual curiosity and encourages new discoveries." Since the "Legacy Grand Wagon" was born in North America in 1995, it is appealing that it has further evolved by combining the value cultivated by successive models with the latest technology.
In terms of appearance, it emphasizes the toughness that seems to be a crossover while inheriting the taste from the predecessor. It features sharper body lines, fender protectors, and the largest six-star emblem ever.
The interior features a three-layer instrument panel and a 11.6-inch vertical monitor in the center. The height of the texture is also one of the selling points, and while the two grades of "Limited EX" and "X-BREAK EX" are lined up, the former is also available with a high-quality nappa leather tailored seat as an option.
On the other hand, the X-BREAK EX has a gear feel, and the front and rear seats are made of waterproof material with energy green stitching. 18-inch aluminum wheels with dark metallic paint, ladder-type roof rails, and black front grille are also equipment unique to X-BREAK EX.
The body size is total length x total width x total height = 4870 x 1875 x 1675 mm (in the case of Limited EX), which is 50 mm longer, 35 mm wider and 70 mm higher than its predecessor. The wheelbase is 2745mm, which is the same as its predecessor. By adopting the Subaru Global Platform and adopting a full inner frame structure, the body rigidity is optimized, and it is said that the dynamic texture and collision safety performance have been greatly improved. The suspension is a MacPherson strut type at the front and a double wishbone type at the rear.
The engine installed vertically on the front is a 1.8-liter horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder direct-injection turbo that produces a maximum output of 177PS and a maximum torque of 300Nm. It drives four wheels via a CVT "Lineartronic" with a manual mode. The fuel is regular gasoline, and the fuel consumption is announced as 15.8km / liter in JC08 mode and 13.0km / liter in WLTC mode.
As for advanced safety equipment, in addition to the new generation "EyeSight" that combines a stereo camera and four front and rear radars, the advanced driver assistance system "EyeSight X" that uses 3D high-precision map data is standard equipment on all models. A new dimension of stress-free safety driving is being pursued.
