Why Import a Japanese Used Car to Tanzania?

These are the basic information that will help you to import car from Japan to Tanzania. Tanzania is one of the largest importers of used cars from Japan to East African countries. If you understand and follow all the laws and regulations of importation, it will be an easy process to go through.
[Shipping Ports]
Used cars from Japan are shipped to the port of Dar Es Salaam to be imported into Tanzania.
[Inspection Required]
JAAI inspection is elementary for vehicles imported from Japan. Vehicles imported into Tanzania from Japan must have passed the JAAI inspection. Before importing a vehicle from Japan, make sure that the vehicle has passed the JAAI inspection. A JAAI certificate will be sent along with the shipping documents.
[Age Restrictions]
There is no age limit for importing used cars from Japan into Tanzania. However, used motor vehicles of 8 years or more, counted from the year of manufacture, will be charged additional excise duty while importing into Tanzania:
Non-utility vehicle fee: 25 percent
Charge for utility vehicles: 5 percent
The importation of buses, vans, cars, trucks, etc. to be used on public roads in Tanzania must follow this rule. However, this rule does not apply to machinery, cargo, agricultural equipment, graders or bulldozers.
[Taxation in TANZANIA]
1.Vehicles with engine capacity up to 2000cc:
Import duty 25%.
VAT 20%
Cumulatively this is 50% of the dutiable value.
2.Vehicles with engine capacity over 2000cc:
Import duty 25%
Excise tax 10%.
VAT 20%
Cumulative 65% of dutiable value
[Excise Duty]
In addition, if the vehicle is older than 8 years, you must also pay excise duty, which is 25% for non-utility vehicles and 5% for utility vehicles.
The excise duty also varies depending on the engine capacity. The duty is levied on goods and services produced locally or imported. It depends on the basis of different engine capacity.
Vehicle applicable rate of different capacity:
1.Cylinder capacity not more than 1000cc- 0%.
2.Cylinder capacity more than 1000cc but not more than 2000cc- 5%.
3.Cylinder capacity over 2000cc- 10%.
