On July 29, 2021, Subaru announced the new sports car "Subaru BRZ." The Subaru BRZ is an FR sports car jointly developed by Subaru with Toyota. The new model is the second generation model, and while sharing the base part with Toyota's "GR 86", it emphasizes the individuality of Subaru brand and differentiates some of the driving characteristics and design. It is said that it has realized "the ultimate FR pure sports car that everyone can enjoy".
The outline is as previously reported, and the newly designed body with increased rigidity by adopting the inner frame structure and structural adhesive is equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of about 400cc from the first generation. The transmission uses a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT with redesigned "sports" mode control. In addition, by using lightweight aluminum for the roof, hood, and front fender, we pursued weight reduction and a low center of gravity. "Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S" is used for the tires to achieve excellent control performance and responsiveness. Another topic is the setting of the preventive safety and driving support system "EyeSight" for AT vehicles.
There are two grades, the basic "R" and the "S", which features a full range of equipment, and the transmission can be selected from 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT. Both grades come in 7 body colors: "WR Blue Pearl", "Sapphire Blue Pearl", "Ignition Red", "Crystal Black Silica", "Magnetite Gray Metallic", "Ice Silver Metallic", and "Crystal White Pearl". You can choose from them, of which Ignition Red is a paid option for 55,000 yen and Crystal White Pearl is a paid option for 33,000 yen.
The price of the new Subaru BRZ is as follows.
R: 3,080,000 yen (6MT) / 3.245,000 yen (6AT)
S: 3,267,000 yen (6MT) / 3,432,000 yen (6AT)
Monthly sales of 500 units are planned for the first year.
